Raney, Missouri facts for kids
Raney is a small place in southeastern Missouri that doesn't have its own city government. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that are not officially part of a town or city. Raney is located in St. Clair County, in the state of Missouri, USA.
You can find Raney along Missouri Route V, which is a road that helps people get around. It's about four miles southwest of a nearby town called Vista.
Raney sits on a high area, like a ridge, with water on both sides. To its west is the Sac River, and to its east is Coon Creek. The waters of the Truman Reservoir, a large lake, reach into both the Sac River and Coon Creek, especially to the northwest and northeast of Raney.
The History of Raney
Raney has been known by a slightly different spelling in the past: "Rainey."
A post office was opened in the community in 1893. This was a place where people could send and receive mail. The post office, named Rainey, stayed open for several years, until 1906.
The community got its name from a person named H. G. Rainey. He was the first owner of the land where Raney is located.
