When Was Ranger Established?
A post office was first opened in Ranger in the year 1866. This allowed people living there to send and receive mail. The post office served the community for many years. It finally closed down in 1952.
The 1974 Super Outbreak Tornado
On April 3, 1974, Ranger experienced a very powerful tornado. This tornado was rated as an F5, which is the strongest type of tornado. It caused a lot of damage to the community. This specific tornado was the first of seven F5 tornadoes that touched down on that day. These tornadoes were part of a much larger event called the 1974 Super Outbreak. This outbreak saw many tornadoes hit different areas.
