Ranggen's Location and Landscape

Ranggen is located in a special dip or "hollow" within the Inn valley. This valley is like a flat area next to the river. The town is west of Innsbruck and continues into the Inzinger mountain area.

Parts of Ranggen Village

The main village area of Ranggen is split into three sections: the outer village, the upper village, and the lower village. There are also smaller groups of houses called "hamlets" that add to the unique look of the area.

The Ferklehen Manor

A special place in Ranggen is the Ferklehen manor. It's located near the valley floor. Its name comes from "Fergen," which originally meant someone who had the right to operate a ferry across the Inn River at a place called Zirl. After a bridge was built in 1482, the "Fergen" right changed to mean taking care of the bridge.

Natural Features

A small stream called the Rettenbach flows through Ranggen. The highest point nearby is the Rangger Köpfl mountain, which stands tall at 1,939 meters (about 6,362 feet).

A Look Back in Time: Ranggen's History

During the Middle Ages and early modern times (a long time ago!), a monastery called Wilten, located in Innsbruck, owned a lot of land in Ranggen.

The Wilten Monastery's Influence

The monastery even had a special archive drawer just for its records about Ranggen. They called this area "Lutzlranggen." This name comes from an old German word, "lützel," which means "small" or "little." Today, you can still see this old name in the local place called Itzlranggen.
