Rankin is a small town, called a borough, in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. It is located about 8 miles (13 km) south of Pittsburgh. Rankin sits right on the Monongahela River.
The borough was named after Thomas Rankin, who owned land in the area a long time ago. In the early 1900s, Rankin was known for making steel and wire products. Its population grew a lot, from 3,775 people in 1900 to 7,470 in 1940. Since then, the number of people living there has gone down. In 2020, about 1,896 people lived in Rankin.
