Rapson is a small, unincorporated community in Huron County, Michigan. This means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. It's located in a part of Michigan often called the "Thumb" because of its shape on a map. Rapson is special because it sits right where four different townships meet: Bloomfield, Sigel, Verona, and Lincoln.
Learning in Rapson
Rapson once had a special one-room schoolhouse. It was called Bloomfield Township District No. 7 Frl. Students could go there from kindergarten all the way through 8th grade. For 96 years, kids learned together in this single room. At its busiest, the school had about 50 students. However, it closed in 2008 when only one student was left.
Places of Worship
St. Joseph's Catholic Church is the only church in Rapson. The priest who served there also held services at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Smith Corners, about 7 miles away. Eventually, Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church joined with St. Joseph's and Sacred Heart Catholic Church (in Bad Axe, Michigan) to form a new group called St. Hubert's Parish. Most Holy Trinity is no longer used as a church. The building where the St. Joseph's priest used to live was taken down in 2018 after being empty for almost ten years.
Community Gatherings
Rapson used to have a bar called 'The Grainery'. Later, a community group called the Bad Axe Moose Lodge #2358 used the building. This lodge has since closed down.
News and Radio
People in Rapson can read the Huron Daily Tribune, which is a newspaper published every day. They also have two local radio stations. These stations are owned by Thumb Broadcasting. WLEW-AM 1340 plays country music. WLEW-FM, known as "Cruise 102.1," plays a mix of popular songs from different eras.
