Gregory Shorter Jr. (born December 11, 1978 – died July 29, 2019), known as Ras G, was a talented American music producer and DJ. He came from Los Angeles, California.
Ras G helped start the record label Poo-Bah Records. He also worked closely with the famous music label Brainfeeder. During his career, he released many albums and mixtapes, starting in 2008.
Life and Music Career
Ras G began his music journey in 2005. He quickly became known for his unique sound. His music often mixed different styles, especially hip hop.
In 2009, he released an album called Brotha from Anotha Planet. Later, in 2011, his solo album Down 2 Earth came out. He also released a free collection of songs, an EP, called Ainat in 2012.
One of his well-known albums, Back on the Planet, was released in 2013. This album came out on the Brainfeeder label.
Ras G passed away in the Leimert Park neighborhood of Los Angeles on July 29, 2019. He was 40 years old.
Ras G's Music Style
Ras G was known for his special way of making beats. He often used a musical tool called a sampler. This allowed him to create new sounds from old ones.
His music had a unique "space-age" feel. He blended hip hop with sounds that made listeners think of outer space and science fiction. This made his music stand out.
He released many different types of music. These included full albums, shorter collections of songs called EPs, and singles. He also produced music for other artists and created remixes of their songs.
