Starting His Football Journey

When Rasmus was a child, he played for local teams like Johansfors IF and Emmaboda IS. In January 2005, he joined Kalmar FF, a bigger club in Sweden.
Time at Kalmar FF
Rasmus played for Kalmar FF for four and a half years. During this time, he played in 96 games and scored 17 goals. He helped his team win some important trophies. They won the 2007 Svenska Cupen (a cup competition), the 2008 Allsvenskan (the top Swedish league), and the 2009 Svenska Supercupen (a super cup).
Moving to AZ
On August 27, 2009, Rasmus signed a four-year contract with AZ Alkmaar, a team in the Netherlands. He played his first game for AZ on September 12, 2009.
A former coach for the Swedish national team, Lars Lagerbäck, once said that Rasmus was one of the most talented players to come from Sweden since Zlatan Ibrahimović. Even though Rasmus had some injuries and illnesses in his first two seasons, he had a very successful 2011–12 season. He was praised for his great passing, amazing free kicks, and scoring goals. Rasmus played a total of 83 matches for AZ before he left the club in the summer of 2012.
Playing for CSKA Moscow
On July 30, 2012, Rasmus signed a three-year contract with CSKA Moscow, a team in the Russian Premier League. He wore the number 20 shirt. On October 21, 2012, he scored his first goal for CSKA from a penalty kick in a 2–0 win. On January 3, 2015, Rasmus and CSKA Moscow agreed to end his contract early. This was so he could focus on recovering from a long-term stomach illness that made it hard for him to train.
Back to Kalmar FF and Retirement
After leaving Russia, Rasmus returned to Kalmar FF in Sweden for the 2015 Allsvenskan season. In early 2020, Rasmus announced that he was retiring from professional football. He explained that his health issues, related to his stomach illness, made it impossible for him to continue playing.
Playing for His Country
Rasmus was the captain of the Swedish under-19 team until August 2007. Then, he started playing for the U21 squad. On February 11, 2009, Rasmus scored his first goal for the Swedish senior team in a friendly game against Austria.
He represented Sweden at the Euro 2012 tournament. On October 16, 2012, he scored a very important goal. It was the fourth goal that helped Sweden draw 4–4 against Germany in Berlin. Sweden was losing 0–4 with only 29 minutes left, but they made an amazing comeback. Rasmus scored the final goal in the last moments of the game. This result was celebrated as one of the greatest sporting achievements in Swedish history.
Family Life
Rasmus comes from a football family! Both of his older brothers also played professional football. His brother David played for Fulham, and his other brother Viktor played for the Dutch club AZ, just like Rasmus.
