Rasmus Elm's Football Journey
Starting His Career in Sweden

Rasmus Elm started playing football when he was a child. He played for local teams like Johansfors IF and Emmaboda IS. In January 2005, when he was still young, he joined Kalmar FF, a professional club in Sweden.
Success with Kalmar FF
Rasmus played for Kalmar FF for about four and a half years. During this time, he played in 96 games and scored 17 goals. He was a key player in helping Kalmar FF win several important trophies. They won the 2007 Svenska Cupen (Swedish Cup), the 2008 Allsvenskan (Swedish League), and the 2009 Svenska Supercupen (Swedish Supercup).
Playing in the Netherlands with AZ
On August 27, 2009, Rasmus signed a four-year contract with AZ Alkmaar, a team in the Eredivisie, which is the top football league in the Netherlands. He played his first game for AZ on September 12, 2009.
Becoming a Star Player
Lars Lagerbäck, a former coach for the Swedish national team, once said that Rasmus Elm was the most talented Swedish player since Zlatan Ibrahimović. Even though Rasmus had some injuries and illnesses in his first two seasons with AZ, he had a very successful 2011–12 season.
During that season, he won many "player of the match" awards. Fans and sports reporters praised him for his great passing, amazing free kicks, and his ability to score goals. Rasmus played a total of 83 matches for AZ before he moved to a new club in the summer of 2012.
Moving to Russia with CSKA Moscow
On July 30, 2012, Rasmus Elm signed a three-year contract with CSKA Moscow, a team in the Russian Premier League. He wore the number 20 shirt for the team. On October 21, 2012, he scored his first goal for CSKA Moscow from a penalty kick. His team won that game 2-0 against Rubin Kazan.
Health Issues and Leaving CSKA
On January 3, 2015, Rasmus ended his contract with CSKA Moscow. He did this so he could focus on recovering from a long-term stomach illness. This illness had made it very difficult for him to train and play with the team.
Returning to Kalmar FF and Retiring
After leaving Russia, Rasmus returned to his former club, Kalmar FF, in Sweden. He joined them for the 2015 Allsvenskan season. In early 2020, Rasmus Elm announced that he was retiring from professional football. He explained that his ongoing stomach illness made it impossible for him to continue playing at a professional level.
Playing for His Country: Sweden
Rasmus Elm was the captain of the Swedish under-19 team until August 2007. After that, he started playing for the U21 squad.
On February 11, 2009, Rasmus scored his first goal for the senior Swedish national team. This happened in a friendly game against Austria. He also represented Sweden at the Euro 2012 tournament, which is a big competition for European national teams.
The Amazing Comeback Against Germany
One of Rasmus's most famous moments for Sweden happened on October 16, 2012. In a World Cup qualification game against Germany in Berlin, Sweden was losing 0-4. But in the last 29 minutes of the game, Sweden made an incredible comeback! Rasmus scored the fourth and equalizing goal in stoppage time, making the final score 4-4. This amazing result is remembered as one of the greatest achievements in Swedish sports history.
Family Life
Rasmus Elm comes from a football family. Both of his older brothers also played professional football. His brother David played for teams like Fulham, and his other brother Viktor played for the Dutch club AZ, just like Rasmus did.
