Ratnasambhava facts for kids
Buddha Ratnasambhava is one of the five special Buddhas in some types of Buddhism. These five Buddhas are sometimes called the Dhyani Buddhas, or "Wisdom Buddhas." Each of them represents a different aspect of wisdom and helps people overcome certain negative feelings.
Ratnasambhava is linked with the color yellow and the southern direction. He helps people change feelings like pride, greed, and being stingy into a calm and fair way of thinking, called equanimity. You can often see him with his right hand pointing down, palm open, as if giving a gift. His left hand holds a valuable jewel in his lap. He is also connected to turning poverty into wealth. When you receive Ratnasambhava's blessings, it's believed you can overcome pride and greed, which helps you find inner peace. Other Buddhas who are known for giving wealth, like the Jambhalas, are part of Ratnasambhava's group.

What Ratnasambhava Represents
Ratnasambhava's name means "Jewel-Born" or "Origin of Jewels." This shows his connection to precious things and wealth, not just money, but also spiritual wealth and good qualities.
Transforming Negative Feelings
One of Ratnasambhava's main roles is to help people change negative feelings into positive ones.
- Pride: He helps turn pride into the wisdom of equality. This means seeing everyone as equal and understanding that all beings share the same basic nature.
- Miserliness and Avarice: These are feelings of being stingy or wanting too much. Ratnasambhava helps change these into generosity and a willingness to share.
His Hand Gestures
The way Ratnasambhava is shown with his hands has special meaning:
- Right Hand Down: His right hand is often in the varada mudra, which means the "gesture of giving" or "bestowing blessings." It shows his promise to give spiritual and material gifts.
- Left Hand with Jewel: His left hand holds a wish-fulfilling jewel. This jewel represents the ability to grant wishes and bring good things, both in the spiritual world and in daily life.
Connection to Wealth and Generosity
Ratnasambhava is strongly linked to wealth and prosperity. However, this isn't just about money. It's also about the wealth of good qualities, wisdom, and compassion. He encourages people to be generous and to share their blessings with others. This belief teaches that true wealth comes from giving, not just from having.
