What Are the Raukumara Mountains Made Of?
The Raukumara Range is mostly made from rocks like greywacke, argillites, siltstones, and sandstones. These rocks formed a very long time ago during a period called the Cretaceous Period.

The Raukumara Range is home to some impressive mountains. The highest non-volcanic peak in the North Island, Mount Hikurangi, is part of this range. It stands tall at 1755 meters (5758 feet).
