What Can You Do at Raumati Marine Gardens?
Raumati Marine Gardens is a great place for families and friends to spend time outdoors. It has something for everyone, from exciting train rides to a cool playground.
Ride the Miniature Railway
One of the most exciting attractions at the park is the outdoor ridable miniature railway. This railway is run by a group called Kapiti Miniature Railway and Associates. Imagine riding on a small train that looks just like a real one!
The railway has two different track sizes, called "dual gauge." This means it can run trains with wheels that are 5 inches apart and also trains with wheels that are 7¼ inches apart. Over the years, the tracks have been made even better and longer. You'll go over bridges and through tunnels, making the ride extra fun!
The miniature trains usually run on Sunday afternoons. They are powered in different ways: some use real steam, just like old-fashioned trains, while others use small engines or even batteries.
Play at the Children's Playground
The Gardens also have a fantastic children's playground. It's a perfect spot for younger kids to climb, swing, and slide. There's even a splash pad, which is a great way to cool down on a warm day!
Where is the Swimming Pool Now?
For many years, Raumati Marine Gardens was home to a heated indoor swimming pool complex. This was the main public pool for towns like Paraparaumu, Paraparaumu Beach, Raumati Beach, and Raumati South. However, this swimming pool has now moved to a new, modern place called the Paraparaumu Aquatic Centre. It's located near the Coastlands Complex, which is a big shopping area.
