The Reñihué Fjord is a long, narrow arm of the sea that reaches inland. It is located in the Los Lagos Region of Chile, a beautiful country in South America. You can find it at coordinates 42°30′59″S 72°37′26″W.

This fjord connects to the Gulf of Ancud, which is part of the Pacific Ocean. At its very end, the Reñihué Fjord receives water from the Reñihué Lake. This water flows into the fjord through the Reñihué River.

A special ferry boat travels on the waters of the Reñihué Fjord. This ferry helps people travel between two towns: Hornopirén and Caleta Gonzalo. Caleta Gonzalo is a small town and a cove located on the southern side of the fjord.

The Reñihué Fjord is surrounded by tall mountains covered in thick forests. Most of these amazing natural areas are part of a protected place called Pumalín Park. This park helps protect the unique plants and animals that live there.

What is a Fjord?

A fjord is a type of valley that was carved out by a glacier (a huge, slow-moving river of ice). After the glacier melted, the valley filled with seawater. This creates a deep, narrow inlet of the sea with steep sides. Fjords are often found in places that had glaciers in the past, like Norway, New Zealand, and parts of Chile.
