Realp is a small town, also called a municipality, located in the canton of Uri in Switzerland. It used to be known as Frialp in an old German dialect called Urnerdeutsch.

A Look Back in Time
Realp was first written about in the year 1363. Back then, it was called Riealb. This is the earliest record we have of the town.
Where is Realp Located?
Realp covers an area of about 78 square kilometers (about 30 square miles). This area is quite large for a small town.
- A big part of the land, about 41.6%, is used for farming. This includes fields and pastures where animals graze.
- Only a small part, 2.3%, is covered by forests.
- Even less, 0.6%, has buildings or roads. This is where people live and move around.
- The largest part, 55.4%, is made up of non-productive land. This means it has rivers, glaciers, or mountains that are not used for farming or building.
Realp is located on the way up to the Furka Pass. This is a famous mountain pass in the Swiss Alps.

Winter Fun: Skiing in Realp
Realp is part of a larger ski area called Skiarena Andermatt-Sedrun.
- It has a small ski lift called a T-bar. This lift takes skiers up a gentle slope.
- There is a special run for beginners, which is perfect for those learning to ski.
- Near Realp, you can also enjoy cross-country skiing. This is a different type of skiing where you glide across flat or gently rolling terrain.
- There is also a biathlon course. Biathlon is a winter sport that combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting.

Realp has two railway stations. These stations help people travel to and from the municipality.

- The other is called Realp DFB. This station is part of a special heritage railway, which means it uses older trains or tracks for historical trips.
