Recipe Rehab was a fun American cooking competition that helped families eat healthier. It started online as a short web series on YouTube on April 2, 2012. Later, it became a longer TV show on October 6, 2012. This TV show was part of the ABC's "Litton's Weekend Adventure" block.
Recipe Rehab was special because it was the first web series from YouTube to become a regular TV show. From September 28, 2013, it moved to CBS as part of the "CBS Dream Team" Saturday morning block. New episodes aired until July 25, 2015, and reruns continued until September 26. The show was designed to be educational, teaching viewers about healthy eating.

How the Show Worked: The Format
The show combined healthy living with a cooking competition. In each episode, two chefs competed. They created healthier versions of a family's favorite recipe.
Who Decided the Winner?
A panel of nutritionists and the featured family chose the winning dish.
- The nutritionists checked how much fat, sugar, and salt were reduced.
- They also looked at how easy and fast the new recipes were to make.
- The family tasted the healthier dishes and picked their favorite.
- Scores were given from 1 to 10 for each part. The chef with the highest total score won!
Web Series vs. TV Show
The online version on YouTube was about eight minutes long. It featured chefs like Daniel Boome, Laura Vitale, and Mareya Ibrahim.
The TV show was 30 minutes long.
- At first, Daniel Boome became the host. New chefs like Calvin Harris, Candice Kumai, and Tana Amen joined.
- When the show moved to CBS in 2013, Evette Rios became the host. Richard Rosendale and Vikki Krinsky were the main competing chefs.
- Episodes also had fun trivia questions about nutrition. "Food fact" graphics appeared on screen, sharing cool facts about ingredients.
Cooking in the Kitchen
Both versions of the show featured the chefs cooking. They had 45 or 60 minutes to prepare their dishes. These cooking parts were sped up for TV.
In the TV show, the family would then cook the winning recipe at home. They received special boxes with ingredients and tools. These boxes also had tablet computers with instructions and nutrition facts.
Special Episodes
Sometimes, the TV show had "ask the chef" episodes. Kids would ask the chefs questions about healthy food. The chefs also showed how to make quick, healthy meals in about ten minutes.
The Story of Recipe Rehab
Recipe Rehab first appeared on YouTube on April 2, 2012. It was made by Everyday Health and Trium Entertainment. YouTube helped fund the show as part of its plan to create original video content.
Everyday Health wanted Recipe Rehab to be on TV too. They partnered with Litton Entertainment to make it a television series.
Moving to Television
The TV version started on October 6, 2012. It aired on Litton's Weekend Adventure, which was an educational programming block on ABC. This expanded the show to 30 minutes.
Later, Litton moved Recipe Rehab to the CBS Dream Team block. This happened on September 28, 2013, for the show's second TV season. Recipe Rehab was one of the shows that ended when the CBS Dream Team announced its fall 2015 schedule. The last new episode aired on July 25, 2015.
