Recipe to Riches was a Canadian TV show where everyday people competed. Their goal was to have their special home recipe turned into a real product. This product would then be sold by President's Choice, a well-known brand.

Contestants would bring their dishes to tryouts held across Canada. A group of judges would taste their food. They looked for great taste, how popular the recipe could be, and if it could be marketed well. The idea for the show was created by Allan Novak and Theresa-Kowall-Shipp.

The show first aired on Food Network Canada and Global. This was for its first two seasons. Later, in 2013, CBC Television started airing the third season.

Jesse Palmer, a former Bachelor host, hosted the first two seasons. For the third season, actor Carlo Rota became the host. The judges included marketing expert Tony Chapman and food expert Dana McCauley. Cookbook author Laura Calder was also a judge.

How the Show Works

People from all over Canada brought their homemade dishes to open tryouts. These tryouts were a bit like those for American Idol. Each home cook presented their dish to a group of judges.

If the judges really liked a recipe, they gave the cook a special gold card. This card meant they might become a finalist on the show.

After many people tried out, only three contestants were chosen. These three were flown to Toronto to compete on the actual TV show.

International Versions of the Show

In 2012, a company called FremantleMedia bought the rights to the show's idea. This meant they could sell the "Recipe to Riches" format to other countries. These countries could then make their own versions of the show.

So far, international versions of the show have been made. These include shows in Slovakia, Australia, and the Czech Republic. A German version called "Das Erfolgsrezept" (which means "The Success Recipe") was planned to air in early 2015.
