Jesse James Palmer (born October 5, 1978) is a Canadian television personality and sports commentator. He used to be a professional football quarterback. He played in the National Football League (NFL) for five seasons in the early 2000s.

Palmer played college football for the Florida Gators. After college, he played professionally for the New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers in the NFL. He also spent some time with the Montreal Alouettes in the Canadian Football League (CFL).

In 2004, Jesse Palmer was chosen to be "The Bachelor" on the fifth season of the reality TV show The Bachelor. He later became a college football analyst for ESPN and ABC. He has also worked for The Sports Network (TSN) in Canada and Good Morning America. Since 2017, he has hosted the Holiday Baking Championship on Food Network. In 2021, Palmer became the main host for The Bachelor and The Bachelorette shows.

Jesse Palmer was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He grew up in Nepean, Ontario, which is a town near Ottawa. He went to Confederation and St. Pius X high schools. He played amateur football for teams in Ottawa, including the Ottawa Norsemen and Myers Riders Football Clubs.

Jesse's father, Bill Palmer, played football for seven years for the Ottawa Rough Riders. His mother, Susan Palmer, was a well-known fashion model. She also helped start a modeling agency in Ottawa.

Jesse has two younger brothers. He went to a French-immersion school, where he learned French. His brother Billy played football as a tight end for the University of Notre Dame. Jesse's cousin, Griffen Palmer, is a country music singer and songwriter.

Jesse Palmer's College Football Career

Jesse Palmer received a sports scholarship to attend the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. He played for coach Steve Spurrier's Florida Gators football team from 1997 to 2000.

During his time at Florida, Palmer often shared playing time with other quarterbacks. In his final year, he was chosen as one of the team captains. He also received the Gators' Fergie Ferguson Award. This award recognizes a senior football player who shows great leadership, character, and courage. He finished his four years in college with 3,755 passing yards.

Palmer graduated from the University of Florida in 2001. He earned two degrees: one in political science and another in marketing. He was also named to the Southeastern Conference’s academic honor roll in 1998, 1999, and 2000 for his good grades.

Playing in the NFL

The New York Giants picked Jesse Palmer in the fourth round of the 2001 NFL draft. He played for the Giants from 2001 until he was released before the 2005 season. For most of his time with the Giants, he was a backup quarterback behind Kerry Collins.

In 2002, Palmer played in two games. The next season, he played in six games and started three of them. Jesse Palmer was the second Canadian player to start as a quarterback in the NFL. The first was Mark Rypien.

The Giants released Palmer on September 3, 2005. He then tried to find another team in the NFL. He worked out with the Minnesota Vikings and Oakland Raiders. On November 1, 2005, the San Francisco 49ers signed him because their quarterbacks were injured. However, he was released three weeks later without playing any games. The 49ers re-signed him in March 2006, but released him again in August 2006.

Playing in the CFL

After leaving the NFL, Jesse Palmer joined the Canadian Football League (CFL). The Montreal Alouettes had drafted him in the 2001 CFL Draft. His rights were still with Montreal.

On September 11, 2006, the Montreal Alouettes signed him to their practice squad. Palmer did not play in a game for Montreal. He decided to retire from the CFL before the 2007 season. He wanted to start a career in broadcasting instead.

Jesse Palmer on The Bachelor

In 2004, Jesse Palmer became the first professional athlete to appear on The Bachelor TV show. He was also the first Bachelor who was not from America. During the first rose ceremony, he accidentally called out the wrong name. After talking with the host, he gave a rose to both contestants. He eventually chose Jessica Bowlin, but their relationship ended a few months after the show.

Palmer returned to host the 26th season of the show. He also hosted the 19th season of The Bachelorette. He has also hosted Bachelor In Paradise, Season 8. He is currently the host of The Bachelor shows, including The Golden Bachelor, which started in Fall 2023.

Jesse Palmer's Broadcasting Career

Jesse Palmer's career in broadcasting started with Fox Sports Net. He analyzed Arena Football League games. He later worked as an analyst for CSTV and covered NFL games for Fox. He also appeared on the NFL Network and the MSG Network.

Palmer was a color commentator for Fox for some games in 2005 and 2006. On April 25, 2007, he was an analyst for the NFL Draft on the NFL Network.

On May 24, 2007, Palmer announced he was retiring from the Canadian Football League. He wanted to focus on his broadcasting career with Fox. He joined ESPN in 2007. At ESPN, he worked as a studio analyst for shows like College Football Live and ABC telecasts. He was also a game analyst for ESPN Thursday Night College football games.

In March 2014, ESPN announced that Palmer would be a lead game announcer for the new SEC Network.

Palmer appeared as a guest star in an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. He played a professional baseball player. He hosted the first two seasons of the food competition show Recipe to Riches on Food Network Canada. In May 2015, Palmer joined Good Morning America as a "Special Contributor." He left in August 2017 to host DailyMailTV.

He has hosted several baking shows on Food Network, including Spring Baking Championship and Holiday Baking Championship. In 2019, he became a commentator on ESPN's College Football Final.

In September 2018, Palmer started appearing in commercials for the furniture store Rooms To Go. He also became the host of The Proposal on ABC.

In August 2020, it was announced that Thomas Roberts would replace Palmer as host of DailyMailTV.

In 2021, Palmer hosted the first season of ABC's show The Ultimate Surfer. Soon after, he was announced as the new host of The Bachelor. He then hosted The Bachelorette and Bachelor In Paradise. He continues to host The Bachelor shows.

In October 2023, he became a spokesperson for Avocados from Mexico.

Jesse Palmer's Personal Life

Jesse Palmer is married to Emely Fardo, who is a photographer and model from Brazil. They met in 2017 at a boxing class. They got married in Connecticut in 2020. After the pandemic rules became easier, they had a second wedding in 2022 at a beautiful hotel in Aix-en-Provence, France. Their daughter, Ella, was born in January 2024.
