Reclus is a tall mountain in Argentina. It is part of the huge Andes mountain range. This mountain is about 6,300 meters (20,669 feet) high.

Reclus is located in the La Rioja Province, in a region called the Puna de Atacama. The entire mountain is within Argentina. It was named after a French geographer, Jacques Élisée Reclus.

Who Climbed Reclus First?

Long ago, native people from the Andes mountains were the first to climb Reclus. They even built special structures near the top!

The first known climb by people from Europe was on February 3, 1986. An American named Johan Reinhard and a Swiss climber named Louis Glausser reached the summit.

How Tall is Reclus?

Reclus stands about 6,300 meters (20,669 feet) above sea level. This height is measured from the ocean's surface to the top of the mountain.

Scientists use different ways to measure mountain heights. They use special maps and tools like GPS. One measurement from a GPS device in 2012 showed Reclus was 6,285 meters tall.

What is Prominence?

A mountain's prominence tells us how much it sticks up from the land around it. It's like measuring how tall a mountain is from its lowest point connecting it to a higher peak.

Reclus has a prominence of 798 meters (2,618 feet). This means it rises quite a bit from the land around it. Its "parent peak" is Bonete Chico, which is an even taller mountain nearby.
