Where is Red Level?
Red Level is found in the northwest part of Covington County. It is located at coordinates 31°24′28″N 86°36′37″W / 31.407735°N 86.610377°W. The town covers an area of about 1.93 square miles (5.0 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with only a tiny bit (0.01 square miles or 0.01 square kilometers) being water.

In 1960, there was a mistake in the population count. It was first reported as 327 people. Later, it was corrected to 617 residents. This happened because many people living just outside the town limits were not counted correctly.

Why is it Called Red Level?
The town's name, Red Level, comes from a store that used to be in the area. This store was called "Read's Level." The owner, James Read, said his name with a silent "a." This led to people misspelling the name as "Red," and it stuck!
