The red and blue damsel is a type of damselfly. Its scientific name is Xanthagrion erythroneurum. It is the only species in its group, called Xanthagrion.
What They Look Like
The red and blue damsel has a bright red face and chest area (called the thorax). Its body, or abdomen, is a light color. This part of its body is about 2.2 to 2.4 centimeters long. Both male and female damsels look very similar in color.
Where They Live
You can find the red and blue damsel all over Australia. They also live on islands in the Pacific Ocean, like Fiji and New Caledonia. In Tasmania, they are found in the northern and eastern parts. These damsels usually live near water, such as dams, wet marshy areas, and slow-moving streams.
