Clifton Reece Gaines (born January 7, 1981) is an American former professional basketball player. He also worked as an assistant coach for the Austin Spurs.

Playing Basketball in High School and College
Reece Gaines is a tall player, standing 6 feet 6 inches (198 cm) and weighing 205 pounds (93 kg). He played as a shooting guard. He started his basketball journey at Madison West High School in his hometown of Madison, Wisconsin.
After high school, Reece played college basketball for four years at the University of Louisville. In his final year, he was named a 3rd-team All-American by the Associated Press. This means he was recognized as one of the best college players in the country. He helped his team, the Louisville Cardinals, achieve a great record of 25 wins and 7 losses.
Many people consider Reece Gaines one of the best shooting guards ever for the Louisville Cardinals. He is among the top five players in Louisville history for:

Even famous NBA player Dwyane Wade once said that Reece Gaines was "the best college basketball player he ever faced."
Reece Gaines in the NBA
Reece Gaines was chosen by the Orlando Magic in the first round of the 2003 NBA draft. He was the 15th player picked overall. He joined the team in July 2003.
He played one season with the Orlando Magic. He then moved to the Houston Rockets as part of a trade. He played ten games with the Rockets. After that, he was traded again to the Milwaukee Bucks in February 2005. He played less often with the Bucks during the 2004–05 and 2005–06 seasons. His last NBA game was on February 12, 2006.
Playing Basketball Around the World
After his time in the NBA, Reece Gaines moved to Italy in 2006. He played for several teams there, including Angelico Biella, Armani Jeans Milano, and Benetton Treviso.
In 2009, he joined the Bakersfield Jam in the NBA Development League (now called the G League). He played well, averaging 14.3 points and 4.0 assists per game. He later played for teams in France and Austria. In January 2012, he signed a short contract with the Fürstenfeld Panthers in Austria.
Reece Gaines as a Coach
After his playing career, Reece Gaines became a basketball coach. In 2012, he started as an assistant coach at Bellarmine University. He coached there for three seasons. During his time at Bellarmine, he helped the team reach the NCAA Division II tournament three times. They even made it to the "Sweet 16" and the "Final Four" rounds.
In 2015, Gaines became an assistant coach at Eastern Kentucky University. He even served as the acting head coach for a short time in 2018.
On November 5, 2019, the Austin Spurs announced that Reece Gaines had joined their team as an assistant coach. He continued in this role until 2021.
