Where is Reevesville Located?
Reevesville is located in a specific spot: 33°12′15″N 80°38′50″W / 33.20417°N 80.64722°W.
The town covers about 1.6 square miles (4.2 square kilometers) in total. Most of this area is land. Only a very small part, about 0.04 square miles (0.1 square kilometers), is water.
A Look at Reevesville's Past
Reevesville started as a farming community. It is located between Cattle Creek and Polk Swamp, close to the Edisto River. The town got its name from being a busy railroad stop once called "Reeves Station."
In 1832, a company built a railroad line through this area. This line connected Reeves Station to the city of Charleston. The town is named after David D. Reeves, a local farmer. He supplied wood to power the first trains that came through the area. The Reeves family has been connected to this area since as early as 1759.
