Starting His Baseball Journey
Reggie Taylor was picked by the Philadelphia Phillies in the first round of the 1995 Major League Baseball Draft. This meant the Phillies chose him as one of the best young players to join their team. He signed with them in June 1995, ready to start his professional baseball career.
Playing in the Minor Leagues
Before reaching the big leagues, Reggie played in the minor league system. In 1999, while playing for the Phillies' minor league teams, he hit 10 triples. A triple is when a batter hits the ball and runs to third base without stopping.
During an offseason, Reggie hurt his shoulder. This injury needed surgery, and he had to take time off. He worked hard to recover and returned to play in May 2000. When he came back, he joined the Triple-A team, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Soon after his return, Reggie had an amazing game where he got 5 hits. That season, he played 89 games and hit 15 home runs. Because of his great performance, the Philadelphia Phillies called him up to play in Major League Baseball.
Playing in the Big Leagues
Reggie Taylor made his first appearance in Major League Baseball on September 17, 2000. He was 23 years old. He got his very first MLB hit on September 29, 2000.
Reggie played two seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies. In 2002, he was traded to the Cincinnati Reds. A trade in baseball means a player moves from one team to another, often in exchange for another player. After playing for the Reds, Reggie became a free agent in 2003. This means he was free to sign with any team he wanted. He signed with the Reds again in 2004, but later that year, he joined the Chicago White Sox.
In 2005, Reggie was traded to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He later signed with the St. Louis Cardinals.
Continuing His Career
After his time in Major League Baseball, Reggie continued to play professional baseball. In 2006, he played for the Lancaster Barnstormers in an independent league. He had a strong season, batting .302 with 23 home runs and 77 RBIs. RBI stands for "runs batted in," which means he helped his teammates score runs.
Reggie also played in the Mexican League for teams like the Olmecas de Tabasco and Dorados de Chihuahua. He showed his skills by batting .353 for Olmecas de Tabasco in 2008. He signed with the Kansas City Royals in 2009, but he did not play any games for their main team. In 2010, he returned to play for the Olmecas de Tabasco.
Reggie Taylor had a career that showed his dedication to baseball, playing at many different levels of the sport.
