History of the Conservatory

The city of Regina first started the conservatory in the 1950s. Back then, it was a group of three greenhouses that grew plants for the city. Later, part of this area was opened to the public. This allowed people to come inside and enjoy the green space.

In 1991, a group of volunteers called the Regina Garden Associates (RGA) was formed. They started by running a small gift shop at the entrance. By 1999, the city of Regina teamed up with the RGA. Together, they began to manage and care for the 315 square meter (3,390 sq ft) greenhouse display. They also started organizing special events. In 2002, this wonderful greenhouse officially became known as the Regina Floral Conservatory.

What You Can See and Do

The conservatory has a permanent collection of plants that are always there. These include different types of trees, cacti, succulents, tropical plants, and beautiful orchids. The flower displays change often, usually four to six times a year, depending on the season. You might see special displays for Christmas, a tropical theme, or a spring display with thousands of colorful bulbs.

The RGA also offers fun and educational programs for kids. Children from preschool to grade eight can learn about how plants grow, what they need, and how different plants adapt to their environments. They also learn about plants that are important for people, the water cycle, and how composting helps plants.
