About Regina Seiden
Regina Seiden was born on July 4, 1897, in Rigaud, Quebec. When she was about eight years old, in 1905, her family moved to the big city of Montreal.
Early Life and Education
From 1905 to 1912, Regina went to a French Catholic school called Académie Marie-Rose. This school was in the Plateau area of Montreal. Her teachers there saw her artistic talent and encouraged her to paint.
After that, from 1913 to 1918, Regina studied art at the Art Association of Montreal. She learned from well-known artists like William Brymner, Edmond Dyonnet, and Maurice Cullen.
Joining the Beaver Hall Group
After her studies, Regina Seiden joined a special group of artists called the Beaver Hall Group. Many of these artists had also been students of William Brymner. The Beaver Hall Group was important because it included many women artists, which was quite new for that time. Regina took part in their very first art show in 1921.
Studying in Paris and Marriage
In 1921, Regina traveled to Paris, France, which is a famous city for art. She studied there for a year at a school called the Académie Julian.
She went back to Paris in 1926. There, she met another artist named Eric Goldberg. They fell in love and got married in 1928. After getting married, Regina took a break from painting her own art for many years.
Later Life and Legacy
Regina Seiden lived in Montreal for most of her life. After her husband Eric passed away in 1969, she started painting again. She also taught art for 20 years at the couple's synagogue in Westmount.
Regina Seiden passed away in 1991. Her paintings are now part of important art collections in Canada. You can see her work in places like the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec and the National Gallery of Canada.
