Reginald Tate (born September 14, 1954 – died October 21, 2019) was an American politician. He was a member of the Democratic Party and served in the Tennessee Senate. He represented the 33rd district, which includes part of Shelby County.
Early Life and Education
Reginald Tate earned a degree in Architectural Engineering from the University of Memphis. After college, he worked as an architect. He was also the President and CEO of a company called Accent by Design.
His Work as a Politician
Reginald Tate was first elected to the state senate in 2006. In the senate, he held several important roles. He was the Vice Chair of the Senate Education Committee. He also helped lead the Health Disparity Committee.
He was the Treasurer for the Tennessee Legislative Black Caucus. He also served on the Shelby County Democratic Party Executive Committee.
During his time in the senate, Tate sometimes voted with members of the Republican Party. In 2018, he ran for re-election as State Senator. However, he lost the Democratic primary election to Katrina Robinson.
