The Regional Archaeological Museum (also known as MARPA) is a cool place in Alcalá de Henares, Spain. It's a special museum where you can discover amazing things from the past, like old tools, bones, and art. This museum is managed by the local government of the Community of Madrid.

Discovering the Past: How the Museum Started

After the Community of Madrid was created in 1983, it took over cultural projects in 1985. People realized that while Madrid had a big national museum, it didn't have its own regional museum. So, they decided to create one!

In 1985, an old convent called La Madre de Dios in Alcalá de Henares was chosen as the perfect spot. Work began in 1987 to transform the building. Finally, the museum opened its doors to the public on May 25, 1999.

What You Can See: Amazing Collections

The museum has many exciting things to explore from different time periods.

Ancient Animals: Paleontology

One part of the museum shows off amazing finds from ancient animals. You can see a huge skull of a cave bear that was found in Patones in 1971. This is the biggest cave bear skull ever discovered in the Iberian Peninsula (which is where Spain is located)!

Roman Life: Complutum's Treasures

Another cool section is all about the Roman period. This part includes many ancient writings carved into stone. It also has a fantastic collection of Roman mosaics from a Roman city called Complutum. This ancient city is actually what Alcalá de Henares used to be called a long, long time ago!
