Rehetobel is a small town, also called a municipality, in Switzerland. It is located in the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden. This charming place is known for its beautiful views and sunny weather.

Geography of Rehetobel
Rehetobel covers an area of about 6.7 square kilometers (2.6 square miles). A large part of this land, about 53.9%, is used for farming. Forests cover another 35.2% of the area. The remaining 10.9% is where buildings and roads are located.
The municipality includes the main village of Rehetobel. It also has several smaller settlements called hamlets and many scattered farm houses.
Rehetobel is situated south of a mountain called Gupf. The village is famous for getting some of the longest hours of sunshine in Switzerland. The lowest point in Rehetobel is Achmüli, which is 610 meters (2,001 feet) high. The highest point is Kaienspitz, reaching 1,121 meters (3,678 feet) above sea level.
History of Rehetobel
People started settling in the Rehetobel area during the 12th and 13th centuries. The name Rehentobel was first written down in 1463.
In 1669, a church was built in Rehetobel. This was an important step, as it meant the village became independent from Trogen. The church was later rebuilt in 1737.
A big fire destroyed much of the village on April 9, 1796. About 20 buildings were lost, but the church was saved. In 1854, a house for people in need was opened. Today, this building is used as a nursery for children.
Sadly, the church was destroyed again by fire on June 28, 1890. However, a new church was quickly built and finished by 1892.
People of Rehetobel
As of 2008, Rehetobel had a population of 1,680 people. About 7.9% of these residents were foreign nationals, meaning they came from other countries. Over the past ten years, the population has grown by about 2.1%.
Most people in Rehetobel speak German, which is 97.1% of the population. Spanish is the second most common language, spoken by 0.6% of residents. Portuguese is third, spoken by 0.4%.
In 2000, the population was almost evenly split between males and females. About 47.6% were male and 52.4% were female.
