The Rehoboth Chapel is a special church building for Strict Baptists in the village of Jarvis Brook. This village is located in the beautiful county of East Sussex, England. It is a place where people come together to worship.
The chapel building itself is made of red and blue bricks. It was finished in 1876. However, the group of people who worship there, called the congregation, started much earlier in 1852.
History of Rehoboth Chapel
The people who started the Rehoboth Chapel congregation were part of another church. They came from the Forest Fold chapel, which is on the other side of Crowborough. In 1852, some members decided to start their own group in Jarvis Brook.
At first, this new group didn't have its own building. They met in a schoolroom to hold their services. Later, they built the chapel you see today. The congregation still has connections with the Forest Fold chapel.
The Rehoboth Chapel is officially recognized as a place of worship. It is registered under a law called the Places of Worship Registration Act 1855. Its special registration number is 24990. This means it's a proper, legal place for people to gather and worship.
