History of Remington
Remington was first planned out in 1860 by a person named Jesse H. Fordice. It was originally known as Carpenter Station. This name came from Carpenter's Creek, where a train station was built. The town grew up around this station.
Later, the town's name changed to Remington. This new name honored the person who started the first general store there. The main business in early Remington was trading grain. The land around the town was excellent for farming, especially for growing grain.
Being on the Pittsburgh, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad made Remington a great spot for this trade. Farmers could easily send their crops to other places. The first large grain storage building, called a grain elevator, was built in 1870. More elevators were added in 1872 and 1879. By 1883, about 900 people lived in Remington.
