The Remington Centre (also known as 滙通廣場 in Chinese) is a large shopping mall planned for Markham, Ontario, Canada. It will be built at the corner of Kennedy Road and Steeles Avenue. This spot used to be home to the Market Village mall, which closed on March 1, 2018.

The new Remington Centre will be connected to the nearby Pacific Mall by an indoor walkway. This means you could easily walk between the two malls! The old Market Village was supposed to be torn down in 2013, but demolition actually began in October 2018.

What to Expect at Remington Centre

The Remington Centre is designed to be a very modern and exciting place. It will have a fresh look with lots of natural light in its hallways. There will be both indoor and outdoor public areas where people can relax.

One special feature will be a unique "night market." This kind of market is popular in many Asian cultures, offering food and goods in the evening.

Green Building Features

The Remington Centre aims to be a "green" building. It plans to get LEED status. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. It means the building is designed to be good for the environment.

The mall will also use a special system called geothermal energy. This system uses the Earth's natural heat to help warm and cool the building. This helps save energy and is better for the planet.

Shops and Homes

The new mall will have two levels. It will offer over 800,000 square feet of space for shops and businesses. This is a very large area for many different stores!

On the southeast side of the mall, there will also be two tall condo towers. These towers are called The Grand Residences at Remington Centre. So, people will be able to live right next to the mall.

When Will It Be Ready?

It's not yet known exactly when the Remington Centre will be built and finished. There have been several delays in the construction plans.

Getting to the Remington Centre

The Remington Centre and Pacific Mall are located at a busy intersection: Steeles Avenue and Kennedy Road. This makes them easy to reach by public transportation.

  • Bus Services: You can take buses from both the TTC (like the 43 Kennedy and 53 Steeles East routes) and York Region Transit (like the 8 Kennedy route).
  • Train Access: The malls are also within walking distance of the Milliken GO Station. This is a train station that connects to other parts of the Greater Toronto Area.

The main roads to enter the malls are Redlea Avenue and Clayton Drive. There's also a railway crossing nearby that is being upgraded. It will become an underpass, which means cars will drive under the train tracks. This will help reduce traffic jams on Steeles Avenue.
