Renée Adorée Taylor (born March 19, 1933) is an American actress, writer, producer, and director. She is well-known for playing Sylvia Fine on the popular TV show The Nanny (1993–1999). Renée Taylor was also nominated for an Academy Award for helping write the movie Lovers and Other Strangers (1970).

Early Life and Education

Renée Taylor was born on March 19, 1933, in The Bronx, New York City. Her parents were Charles and Frieda Wexler. Her mother, Frieda, wanted to be an actress herself.

Renée was named after a famous silent film actress named Renée Adorée. She studied acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. This school helped her learn the skills she needed for her long career.

Renée Taylor's Career Journey

Renée Taylor started her acting career in the 1950s. She worked with improv groups, which are teams of actors who make up scenes on the spot. In the early 1960s, she performed as a comedian at a club in New York City called Bon Soir. A very famous singer, Barbra Streisand, was her opening act back then.

Her character was always trying to help Fran find a husband. Renée became a full-time cast member on The Nanny by the third season. Her husband, Joseph Bologna, also appeared in two episodes of The Nanny.

Later TV and Voice Work

Renée Taylor has appeared in many other popular TV shows. Between 2008 and 2012, she guest-starred as Mrs. Matsen on How I Met Your Mother. She also appeared on the Disney Channel show Shake It Up as Mrs. Lacasio. On the Nickelodeon series Victorious, she played Robbie's grandmother.

Renée Taylor has also lent her voice to animated characters. She was the voice of Mrs. Start in the movie Ice Age: The Meltdown. She also has a recurring voice role as Linda's mother, Gloria, in the animated series Bob's Burgers. In 2009, she played Martha Benson in the film Opposite Day.

More recently, Renée Taylor appeared in the Netflix movie The Do-Over (2016) with Adam Sandler. She also acted in the 2017 film How to Be a Latin Lover. Her last film with her husband, Joseph Bologna, was Tango Shalom, released in 2021.

Renée Taylor married actor Joseph Bologna on August 7, 1965. They had a son named Gabriel, who is a filmmaker. Gabriel even directed his parents in their last film together, Tango Shalom. Renée and Joseph were married for 52 years until Joseph passed away in August 2017. Renée Taylor is Jewish.
