Renée Adorée Taylor (born March 19, 1933) is an American actress, writer, and director. She is well-known for her role as Sylvia Fine on the popular TV show The Nanny (1993–1999). Renée Taylor was also nominated for an Academy Award for helping to write the movie Lovers and Other Strangers (1970).

Renée Taylor's Early Life
Renée Taylor was born on March 19, 1933, in The Bronx, New York City. Her parents were Charles and Frieda Wexler. Her mother, who wanted to be an actress, named Renée after a famous silent film star named Renée Adorée. Renée Taylor later studied acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.
Renée Taylor's Career in Entertainment
Renée Taylor began her acting career in the 1950s with improv groups. In the early 1960s, she performed as a comedian in New York City. A famous singer, Barbra Streisand, was her opening act back then.

In 1967, Renée Taylor appeared in the movie The Producers. She played an actress who was pretending to be Eva Braun. She got this role while working on a play called Luv with Gene Wilder.
Writing and Directing Films
Renée Taylor and her husband, Joseph Bologna, wrote a successful play called Lovers and Other Strangers. They were both nominated for an Academy Award when they wrote the movie version in 1970. From 1992 to 1994, Renée Taylor played Doris Tupper in the HBO series Dream On. In 1993, she joined the CBS sitcom The Nanny as Sylvia Fine. This character was the mother of the main character, Fran Fine. Sylvia Fine was known for wanting her daughter to get married and for her great love of food.
Renée Taylor became a full-time cast member on The Nanny by its third season. Her husband, Joseph Bologna, also appeared on the show twice. He played an actor and later a doctor who admired Sylvia.

Between 2008 and 2012, Renée Taylor was a guest star on How I Met Your Mother. She played Mrs. Matsen, a neighbor. She also appeared on the Disney Channel show Shake It Up as Mrs. Lacasio. On the Nickelodeon series Victorious, she played Robbie's grandmother who wanted to learn about the Internet.
Renée Taylor has also done voice acting. She was the voice of Mrs. Start in the animated movie Ice Age: The Meltdown. She also had a recurring voice role as Gloria in the animated series Bob's Burgers. In 2009, she played Martha Benson in the film Opposite Day.
