The Renaud River is a small river in Quebec, Canada. It flows into the Rivière du Gouffre. This river is entirely located within the town of Baie-Saint-Paul. It is part of the Charlevoix Regional County Municipality.

The area around the river is mostly farmland. There are also some houses in Baie-Saint-Paul. A main road, Quebec Route 138, runs near the river. It helps people travel through the valley.

When the River Freezes

The Renaud River usually freezes over in early December. It stays frozen until early April. You can often walk safely on the ice from mid-December to late March. The amount of water in the river changes with the seasons. It gets higher after heavy rain or when snow melts in spring. The biggest flood usually happens in April.

Where the Renaud River Starts and Ends

The Renaud River begins at the bottom of a place called Cap de la Mare. It starts from a small stream that flows down a cliff. This starting point is in Baie-Saint-Paul.

How the River Flows

The Renaud River flows for about 4.3 km (2.7 mi). It travels across a flat area. The river drops about 27 metres (89 ft) from its start to its end. Along its way, other small streams join it. These include the Michel stream and the Mare des Champs stream. The river also crosses Quebec Route 138. It then flows into an urban area before reaching its mouth.

Where the River Joins Another

The Renaud River flows into the Rivière du Gouffre. This meeting point is also in Baie-Saint-Paul. It is about 0.7 kilometres (0.43 mi) northwest of the town center. From there, the water continues its journey. The Rivière du Gouffre then flows into the mighty Saint Lawrence River.

Why is it Called Renaud River?

The name "Rivière à Renaud" was officially recognized on August 29, 1972. This was done by the Quebec Place Names Bank.
