The Renault 5 was sold in two main versions, called generations. The first generation was made from 1972, and the second one arrived in 1985. Even after a new car, the Renault Clio, came out in 1990, the Renault 5 was still sold until 1996 as a more affordable model called the "Campus."

What is a Supermini Car?

The Renault 5 is known as a "supermini" car. This means it's a small car, but not tiny. It's bigger than a very small city car but smaller than a typical family car. These cars are great for driving in cities because they are easy to park and use less fuel. The Renault 5 was also part of the "B-segment" of cars, which is another way to classify its size.

Different Styles and Engines

The Renault 5 was available as a hatchback. A hatchback car has a back door that swings upwards, making it easy to put things in the back. You could get it with either three doors or five doors.

It had different kinds of engines:

• Petrol Engines: Most models used petrol (gasoline) engines. These engines had 4 cylinders, which are like small pumps that make the car move. Their power ranged from 35 to 94 horsepower.
• Diesel Engines: Some versions also had diesel engines, which use a different type of fuel.

The Speedy Renault 5 Turbo

There was also a special, very fast version called the Renault 5 Turbo. This car was much more powerful, with 110 or even 160 horsepower! It was designed for racing and for people who wanted a really sporty car. Unlike most Renault 5s, the Turbo version had its engine in the middle of the car, not the front. This helped it handle better when driving fast.
