Renée Gunter, born around 1952, is an American landscape designer from Los Angeles, California. She is well-known for creating gardens that don't need much water. Her work helps save water, especially in dry areas.

Designing Water-Saving Gardens

Renée Gunter's own garden was featured on ABC News. It showed how her designs help save water during long dry spells. She has designed and fixed up many gardens and parks in local neighborhoods. Renée also started her own landscape company called Urbanscapes.

Creating Private Parks

When designing a front yard for a client, Renée thought about saving water, making it beautiful, and adding privacy. She reused an old fence and carefully shaped the earth. Then, she planted large plants that don't need much water. This made the house almost hidden, creating a "private park" feel.

Helping Communities and Wildlife

Renée encourages neighbors to save water. She also organizes big block parties to help people in the community connect. Her garden uses plants that are used to living with little water. Some of these plants include Agave weberi and Acacia baileyana, along with different grasses. Her garden also has a dry "riverbed" that you can walk through.

Her yard is special because it's the only "certified wildlife habitat" in southern Los Angeles. This means it's a safe place for local animals. Water officials have praised her efforts to save water.

Bringing Fresh Food to Neighbors

In 2013, Renée Gunter started a mobile service called "DO! Daily Organics." This service delivers fresh fruits and vegetables to people living in South Los Angeles. She even built a small shop for her business using an old shipping container.

Renée Gunter's Journey

Renée Gunter grew up in South Los Angeles. She studied psychology at the UCLA. After college, she traveled to Europe. For seven years, she worked as a runway model for famous designers like Yves St. Laurent and André Courrèges. She modeled in Japan, Paris, and Italy. Later, she returned to her hometown. In the 1990s, she also designed clothes for a brand called Cross Colors.
