Repollal is a cool name that means "place of cabbages"! It's actually a group of three small villages, called hamlets. These hamlets are located on Ascención Island, which is part of the Guaitecas Archipelago in southern Chile.

What is Repollal?
Repollal isn't just one place. It's made up of three different hamlets. From north to south, they are Repollal Alto, Repollal Medio, and Repollal Bajo. Think of them as tiny neighborhoods close to each other.
Where is Repollal Located?
All three hamlets of Repollal are found on Ascención Island. This island is part of the Guaitecas Archipelago, a group of islands off the coast of southern Chile. Repollal is located to the west of Melinka. Melinka is the only real town in the entire archipelago.
How Many People Live There?
In 2002, a count was taken to see how many people lived in Repollal.
- Repollal Alto had 81 people.
- Repollal Medio had only 7 people.
- Repollal Bajo had 36 people.
If you add them all up, the total population of Repollal was 124 people. That's a very small community!
Getting Around Repollal
Even though Repollal is small, it's connected to Melinka. There's a gravel road that links the hamlets to Melinka. This road helps people travel between the villages and the main town.
Who Lives in Repollal?
The people who live in Repollal are mostly descendants of settlers. These settlers came from the Chiloé Archipelago. Chiloé is another group of islands not too far away. This means the people living in Repollal have a long history in this part of Chile.
