Playing career 1995–2015

Reto von Arx (born September 13, 1976) is a famous Swiss former ice hockey player. He played as a centre, which is a key position in hockey. Reto spent most of his amazing career playing in Switzerland's top ice hockey league, the National League A. He also had a short but exciting time playing in the National Hockey League (NHL) in North America. After retiring as a player, he became an ice hockey coach.

Reto von Arx's Playing Career

Reto von Arx started his hockey journey in Switzerland. He first played for SC Langnau in a lower division league. In 1995, he joined HC Davos, a top team in the National League A (NLA). This was a big step up in his career.

Playing in the NHL

In 2000, Reto was chosen by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. This is when NHL teams pick young players to join them. He was the 271st player picked that year. He played 19 games for the Blackhawks in the 2000–01 season. He also played for their minor league team, the Norfolk Admirals. After one season in North America, he returned to Switzerland.

Success with HC Davos

Reto von Arx played almost all of his professional career with HC Davos. He played an incredible 1004 games in the NLA for this team! With HC Davos, he won the Swiss championship six times. He also helped his team win the Spengler Cup twice, in 2006 and 2011.

Reto was recognized as one of the best players in the NLA. He was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) three times: in 2001–02, 2005–06, and 2008–09. This shows how important he was to his team.

Representing Switzerland

Reto also played for the Swiss national team. He competed in the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. He also played in four World Championships. Representing his country was a big honor for him.

He retired from playing professional hockey after the 2014-15 NLA season.

Reto von Arx's Coaching Career

After he stopped playing, Reto von Arx became a coach. In 2015, he was named an assistant coach for the Swiss national team. He worked alongside Felix Hollenstein and head coach Patrick Fischer, who was also a former NHL player.

Reto stayed with the national team until July 2016. After that, he joined the coaching staff for the Swiss under-17 national team. This means he helped train younger players. He is currently the head coach of EHC Chur.
