Revelator Coffee Company LLC is an American company that roasts (prepares) coffee. Its main office is in Birmingham, Alabama. The company started in October 2013 in New Orleans, Louisiana. It was founded by three people: Josh Owen, Emma Chevalier, and Elizabeth Pogue.

Revelator Coffee moved its main office to Birmingham in February 2015. They opened their first coffee shop there in October 2014. At one point, they had 20 coffee shops across the southern United States and two in Massachusetts. In 2017, they bought two other coffee companies: Wired Puppy from Boston, Massachusetts, and Octane Coffee from Atlanta, Georgia. They ran coffee shops under these names too. However, since 2020, most of their locations have closed. Today, Revelator Coffee has two shops still open.

The Story of Revelator Coffee

How Revelator Coffee Started

Revelator Coffee officially became a company on October 9, 2013. It was founded by Josh Owen, Emma Chevalier, and Elizabeth Pogue. Josh Owen was the president, Emma Chevalier was the creative director, and Elizabeth Pogue was the director of operations.

The company was first announced in March 2014. Its main office and coffee roasting factory were in New Orleans, Louisiana. Their first plan was to open four coffee shops. One would be in New Orleans, another in Birmingham, Alabama, and two in Chattanooga, Tennessee. These first shops were meant to be test locations.

Moving to Birmingham

In February 2015, Revelator Coffee announced a big change. They decided to move their main office and roasting factory to a large warehouse in Birmingham. This warehouse was about 10,000 square feet (around 930 square meters).

The main reason for this move was to be closer to their main shop in Birmingham. It also helped them find a central spot in the southeastern United States. This made it easier to manage their growing business.

Growing with Other Coffee Brands

In January 2017, Revelator Coffee bought Wired Puppy. Wired Puppy was a coffee shop company based in Boston, Massachusetts. It had locations in Boston and Provincetown. The owner of Wired Puppy had to sell the company because they didn't have enough staff.

In March 2017, Revelator Coffee announced another purchase. They bought Octane Coffee, a chain of coffee shops from Atlanta, Georgia. Tony Riffel, who helped start Octane Coffee in 2003, joined Revelator Coffee's team. He became a member of their advisory board and later became the director of their retail shops.

Revelator Coffee decided to keep the Octane Coffee name for its shops. Both Revelator Coffee and Octane Coffee products were sold at all their locations. The plan was to change the names of all Octane Coffee and Wired Puppy shops to Revelator Coffee by July 2018.

After growing very quickly, many of Revelator Coffee's locations closed down between 2018 and 2021. As of 2022, only two shops are still open. One is in Birmingham, Alabama, and the other is in New Orleans.

Where Revelator Coffee Shops Were Located

Revelator Coffee once had 18 coffee shops and two restaurants. Most of these were in the southern United States, with two more coffee shops in Massachusetts.

Their very first shop opened in Birmingham, Alabama, on October 22, 2014. It was located in a building called Whitmire Lofts. This was the first of their four planned test locations. Over time, the company opened shops in many cities. These included Birmingham, Nashville, Tennessee, Charleston, South Carolina, Chattanooga, and Atlanta, Georgia. Some of these new shops even took over places where other coffee shops used to be.
