Revels are a popular type of chocolate candy made by the company Mars, Inc. They first appeared in the United Kingdom in 1967. What makes Revels special is that every bag is a surprise! Each chocolate ball looks the same on the outside, but has a different center.
When Revels were first created, the surprise centers were orange creme, coconut, toffee, and peanut. The bag also included solid chocolate buttons (like Galaxy Minstrels without the shell) and crunchy Maltesers. Over time, the recipe changed. The coconut flavor was swapped for coffee creme, and peanuts were replaced with raisins.

What Flavors Are in a Bag of Revels?
Today, a standard bag of Revels contains a mix of these centers:
- Toffee (chewy)
- Raisin (fruity)
- Orange Creme (soft and citrusy)
- Coffee Creme (soft with a coffee taste)
- Malteser (crunchy honeycomb)
- Solid Milk Chocolate (a simple chocolate piece)
Part of the fun of eating Revels is not knowing which flavor you'll get next!
The Story of Galaxy Counters
Galaxy Counters are small, solid milk chocolate buttons. They were once sold in their own separate packs. For a while, they were discontinued and you could only find them inside a bag of Revels. However, in 2010, Mars decided to bring them back, and you can now buy Galaxy Counters on their own again.
The Great Flavor Eviction of 2008
In July 2008, the makers of Revels launched a fun campaign. They asked the public to vote for which flavor should be "evicted" or removed from the bag for a short time. People voted online for their least favorite flavor.
The coffee creme flavor received the most votes and was temporarily replaced by a new strawberry flavor. However, the coffee flavor was very popular with many fans, so it was brought back into the mix in early 2009.
2023 Product Recall
On December 1, 2023, Mars had to issue a product recall for some batches of Revels. This happened because small pieces of rubber were found in some of the sweets, which made them unsafe to eat.
The Food Standards Agency, which helps keep food safe in the UK, advised people not to eat the affected batches. Mars offered refunds to anyone who had bought them. The problem was quickly fixed, and Revels were made safe for everyone to enjoy again.
