Revloc is a small community in Cambria Township, Cambria County, Pennsylvania, United States. It's called a census-designated place because the U.S. Census Bureau defines its borders for counting people.

Revloc is located near two main roads, US Routes 422 and 219. It is about 2 miles (3.2 km) west of Ebensburg, which is the main town of Cambria County. In 2020, about 531 people lived in Revloc. A fun fact about its name is that "Revloc" is the word "Colver" spelled backward! Colver is a nearby community.

Exploring Revloc's Past

Revloc has a rich history tied to coal mining. The community was built to support the workers of the local mines.

The Revloc Coal Mine

The Revloc mine was first built between 1916 and 1917. It was started by the Monroe Coal Company. Later, a company called Bethlehem Mining (also known as BethEnergy) took over the mines. They operated them until the 1980s.

In 1978, the mines were closed for over a year because of a fire. After the fire, plans were made to reopen them. Some of the original mine buildings are still standing today. These include a boiler house, an office building, and a red brick bathhouse from the 1940s.

A Community Built for Miners

The town of Revloc itself was founded in 1917. It was created as a "coal patch town." This means it was a community built specifically to house coal miners and their families. Many of the early residents of Revloc were immigrants from Eastern European countries. People from Ukraine and Poland were among those who came to live and work in this mining town.

Population Facts

The number of people living in Revloc has changed over time. In 2020, the population was 531 people.
