The Story of Rex: A Look at Its Past
Rex got its name from a Latin word meaning "king." A post office was first opened here in 1882.
For a short time, Rex was officially a town. The government of Georgia made Rex a town in 1912. But just ten years later, in 1922, it stopped being an official town.
In 2011, a group called the Georgia Historic Trust said that the old buildings in Rex Village were "in peril." This means they were at risk of being lost or damaged. People wanted to help protect these important historical places.
