Rib Mountain is a village in Marathon County, Wisconsin, USA. It's home to 7,313 people, based on the 2020 census. This village is a suburb of Wausau and part of the larger Wausau area.

History of Rib Mountain

The area that is now Rib Mountain was first part of the Town of Weston. In 1905, it became its own town called Erickson. This name honored George Erickson, who was the town chairman at the time.

Later, the town's name changed to Flieth. Then, in 1930, it was renamed the Town of Rib Mountain. It got its name from the large hill nearby, also called Rib Mountain.

In 2023, the people living there voted to change their town into a village. The vote was very clear, with 1,194 people voting yes and only 104 voting no. This is how it became the Village of Rib Mountain.

Geography and Location

Rib Mountain is located in central Wisconsin. The village covers about 25.6 square miles (66.3 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 24.6 square miles (63.7 square kilometers), is land. The rest, about 1.0 square mile (2.6 square kilometers), is water.
