Ricardo Moniz (born on June 17, 1964) is a Dutch football manager and former player. He is currently the head coach of the Swiss Super League club Zürich.

Ricardo Moniz played as a defender for several football clubs. He played for teams like RKC Waalwijk, HFC Haarlem, Helmond Sport, and Eindhoven.
Coaching Career: Ricardo Moniz's Journey as a Manager
Ricardo Moniz has had a long and interesting career as a football coach. He started as a skills trainer and worked his way up to become a head coach for many teams across Europe.
Early Coaching Roles and Skill Development
Moniz was a special skills trainer at Tottenham Hotspur for three seasons, leaving in May 2008. He is known for following the methods of Wiel Coerver, a famous coach who focused on improving players' technical skills rather than just team tactics. Before Tottenham, Moniz was also an academy coach at PSV Eindhoven, helping young players develop.
On June 8, 2008, he joined Hamburger SV as a skills and talent coach, working with head coach Martin Jol. Later, on April 26, 2010, he became the temporary head coach for the last two games of the 2009/2010 season, replacing Bruno Labbadia. He stayed in this role until Armin Veh took over on May 24, 2010.
Leading Red Bull Salzburg to Success
After his time at Hamburg, Ricardo Moniz became the Global Director of Youth Development for Red Bull. This meant he was in charge of their football academies on four different continents.
On April 8, 2011, Moniz was named the new head coach of Red Bull Salzburg. He led the team to an amazing achievement, winning both the league and the cup in the 2011–12 season. This was the first time in Salzburg's history that a manager had won both titles in the same season. In June 2012, he left the club after some disagreements within the team.
Coaching in Hungary and Poland
On August 21, 2012, Ricardo Moniz became the new manager of the Hungarian club Ferencváros. Fans quickly liked his dedication to football. However, due to difficult situations and the team's performance, Moniz was dismissed by Ferencváros on December 2, 2013.
Despite this, Ricardo was recognized for his work. He was voted the Austrian manager of the year for the 2011/2012 season and received the Hungarian Players Union Manager of the Year award in 2012/2013.
On March 27, 2014, he took over as coach of Lechia Gdańsk in Poland. He helped them reach their highest league position ever, finishing 4th. He resigned on June 4, 2014, for personal reasons.
Managing in Germany and England
Soon after leaving Lechia, Moniz became the new manager of 1860 Munich in Germany. There, he made the young 18-year-old player Julian Weigl the team captain. Moniz was dismissed from 1860 Munich on September 24, 2014.
On April 7, 2015, Moniz was appointed manager of the English club Notts County in League One. He signed a three-year contract but was dismissed on December 29, 2015, when the team was 15th in League Two.
Return to Eindhoven and Other Clubs
In July 2016, he returned to manage Eindhoven, the club he played for. He left the club at the end of the 2016–17 season.
On October 8, 2017, Ricardo Moniz became the new manager of the Danish club Randers. However, he was dismissed by the club's board on January 26, 2018, after only nine games.
On June 2, 2018, Moniz was appointed head coach of the Slovak club Trenčín. In October 2018, after a few months, he announced he was leaving the club.
Coaching Excelsior and Zalaegerszeg
On April 8, 2019, Excelsior confirmed that Ricardo Moniz would be their head coach until the end of the season. On January 28, 2020, Excelsior ended his contract due to disappointing results in the Eerste Divisie season.
On May 25, 2022, Moniz was announced as the head coach of the Hungarian club Zalaegerszeg. In October 2022, Moniz faced a temporary suspension from the Hungarian Football Federation. In an interview, Moniz shared that Zalaegerszeg could not buy expensive top players, so they needed to focus more on developing young players from their youth academies.
On February 25, 2023, Moniz's team beat Fehérvár in the 2022-23 Nemzeti Bajnokság I season, and he dedicated the win to Miklós Lendvai, a former player who had passed away. Moniz was dismissed from Zalaegerszegi TE FC in April 2023.
Latest Coaching Roles: Slaven Belupo and Zürich
Moniz took over as coach of the Croatian club Slaven Belupo on June 15, 2023. He was dismissed on September 4, 2023, after only one win in seven games.
On October 20, 2023, he joined the coaching staff of the Swiss club Zürich. In January 2024, he became the coach of Zürich's youth team. On April 22, 2024, he was appointed the temporary head coach of Zürich for the last five games of the season. His permanent role as head coach was announced on May 24, 2024, and he signed a two-year deal.
