Coaching at Hamburger SV
In 2008, Moniz joined Hamburger SV as a skills and talent coach. In April 2010, he became the temporary head coach for the last two games of the season. He held this role until a new coach was hired in May 2010.
Success with Red Bull Salzburg
In April 2011, Ricardo Moniz became the head coach of Red Bull Salzburg. He led the team to a great achievement. They won both the league title and the cup in the 2011–12 season. This was the first time in the club's history that a manager achieved this "double" win. He left the club in June 2012 due to some disagreements within the team.
Managing Ferencváros
On August 21, 2012, Moniz took over as manager of Ferencváros, a club in the Hungarian League. Fans really liked his dedication to football. The team had some good results, but he was let go in December 2013 because of the team's performance.
Moniz was recognized for his coaching. He was voted the Austrian manager of the year for the 2011–12 season. He also won the Hungarian Players Union Manager of the Year award in 2012–13.
Time in Poland and Germany
In March 2014, Moniz became the coach of Lechia Gdańsk in Poland. He helped them reach their highest league position ever, finishing 4th. He resigned in June 2014 for personal reasons.
Soon after, he became the manager of 1860 Munich in Germany. There, he made a young 18-year-old player, Julian Weigl, the team captain. Moniz was dismissed from this role in September 2014.
