Ricardo Rocha was born in Recife, Brazil. He played for many different football clubs during his long career. He started playing professionally in 1982.
Early Career in Brazil
Some of his first teams included Manchete Futebol Clube do Recife (then called Santo Amaro), Santa Cruz Futebol Clube, and Guarani Futebol Clube. He quickly became known for his skills as a defender.
Playing in Europe
In 1988, Ricardo Rocha moved to Europe to play for Sporting Clube de Portugal in Portugal. After a short time there, he returned to Brazil.
Success with São Paulo
From 1989 to 1991, he played for São Paulo FC. This was a very successful time for him. He helped São Paulo win the Campeonato Paulista (a state championship) twice and the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A (the top national league) once.
Time at Real Madrid
One of his most famous moves was to Real Madrid in Spain, where he played from 1991 to 1993. While at Real Madrid, he helped the team win the Copa del Rey in 1993, which is a major Spanish cup competition.
Later Career and Retirement

Unfortunately, he got injured early in the competition. He only played for 69 minutes in the first group stage match against Russia. Even though he was injured, he was still part of the team that won the World Cup.
