Guarani Futebol Clube, often just called Guarani, is a famous Brazilian football club. It is located in Campinas, a city in the São Paulo state. Guarani is special because it's the only club not from a state capital or a city by the sea to have won Brazil's top football league!
The team currently plays in the Série B, which is the second main league in Brazilian football. They also play in the Campeonato Paulista Série A1, the top league for clubs in the São Paulo state. The club is also known as Bugre, which is a popular term for an Indigenous Brazilian. Their fans are called bugrinos.

Club History
Guarani Football Club was started on April 1, 1911. It was founded in Campinas, São Paulo, by 12 students from a school called Gymnasio do Estado. These students, including Pompeo de Vito, Hernani Felippo Matallo, and Vicente Matallo, loved playing football at Praça Carlos Gomes. Vicente Matallo became the club's first president.
The club was named after a famous opera called "Il Guarany". This opera was created by maestro Antônio Carlos Gomes, who was born in Campinas. Even though the club was officially founded on April 1, 1911, the directors changed the official date to April 2, 1911. They did this to avoid April Fools' Day jokes from rival teams!
In 1949, Guarani won the Campeonato Paulista Second tier. This win allowed them to play in the top state league the next season.
As of 2023, Guarani is one of only two Brazilian clubs not based in a state capital to have won the national championship. The other club is Santos. Guarani won the Campeonato Brasileiro in 1978. They beat Palmeiras in the final!
In 1979, the club reached the semi-finals of the Copa Libertadores. This is a very important international competition in South America. However, they were knocked out by Club Olimpia, who went on to win the tournament. This is still Guarani's best result in an international competition.
In 2016, Guarani did well in the 2016 Campeonato Brasileiro Série C playoffs. This meant they returned to Série B after four years away.
