Édson was a part of the Brazil national football team. He played 19 games for his country between 1983 and 1986. One of his biggest achievements was winning a gold medal at the 1979 Pan American Games in football.
The 1986 FIFA World Cup Journey
Édson was chosen to play in the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico. He started as the right-back in Brazil's first two matches. This happened because the usual first-choice player, Leandro, could not travel with the team.
During the second game against Algeria, Édson got injured early on. He had to leave the field, and another experienced player, Falcão, took his place. Because of this injury, a new player named Josimar got his chance to play right-back in the next game against Northern Ireland. After the World Cup, Édson did not play for Brazil again.
