Waldir Peres de Arruda (born January 2, 1951 – died July 23, 2017), known simply as Waldir Peres, was a famous Brazilian football player. He was a talented goalkeeper.
Waldir Peres is best known for playing with the São Paulo football club. He also played for the Brazilian national team.

Club Career Highlights
Waldir Peres spent most of his playing career with São Paulo. He played for them from 1973 to 1984. During this time, he played 617 games for the club.
He helped São Paulo win important championships. These included the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A in 1977. He also won the Campeonato Paulista (São Paulo State championship) four times.
After São Paulo, he played for other teams. These included América, Guarani, and Corinthians. Later, he played for Portuguesa and Ponte Preta. His last club was Santa Cruz, where he won the Campeonato Pernambucano in 1990.
International Games for Brazil
Waldir Peres also played for the Brazilian national team. He played 30 games for his country between 1975 and 1982.
He was part of the Brazilian team in three World Cup tournaments. These were in 1974, 1978, and 1982. He played five matches in the 1982 World Cup.
Becoming a Coach
After he stopped playing, Waldir Peres became a football coach. He managed several different clubs. In 2006, he coached the Under-18 team for Vitória-ES. This was during a youth tournament called the Copa São Paulo de Juniores.
Life and Legacy
Waldir Peres passed away in 2017. He was 66 years old and died from a heart attack.
His daughter, Erika Peres, also became a football player.
