Ricardo Ten Argilés (born August 11, 1975) is an amazing Spanish athlete. He is famous for being a top competitor in both Paralympic swimming and para-cycling. He has won many medals, including gold, silver, and bronze, at the Paralympic Games and World Championships.

Ricardo's Early Life

Ricardo Ten Argilés was born on August 11, 1975, in Valencia, Spain. When he was eight years old, he had a serious accident involving high-voltage power lines. This accident led to the amputation of his arms and his left leg. Despite this, Ricardo has become a world-class athlete.

Ricardo's Swimming Career

Ricardo is known as an S5 type swimmer, which is a classification for athletes with certain physical impairments. He has competed in many important swimming events around the world.

Major Swimming Competitions

Ricardo has shown incredible talent in swimming.

• In 2007, he competed at the IDM German Open.
• In 2010, he went to the Adapted Swimming World Championship in the Netherlands. There, he won a gold, a silver, and a bronze medal.
• He also competed at the 2011 IPC European Swimming Championships in Berlin, Germany. He finished fifth in the 50 meters butterfly race.
• In 2012, he took part in the Paralympic Swimming Championship of Spain.
• He also competed at the 2013 IPC Swimming World Championships.

Ricardo has represented Spain in swimming at four Paralympic Games.

• At the 1996 Summer Paralympics in Atlanta, he won a silver medal in the 100-meter breaststroke. He also earned a bronze medal in the 4 x 50-meter medley relay race.
• In 2000, at the 2000 Summer Paralympics in Sydney, he won two gold medals. He was first in the 100-meter breaststroke and also in the 4 x 50-meter medley relay.
• At the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing, he won another gold medal in the 100-meter breaststroke. He also got a bronze medal in the 4x50m medley relay.
• In 2012, at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, he won a bronze medal in the 100-meter breaststroke.

Ricardo's Cycling Career

After a very successful swimming career, Ricardo Ten Argilés also became a top para-cyclist. He has continued to win many medals in this sport.

Cycling at the Paralympics

Ricardo has also competed in cycling at the Paralympic Games.

• At the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, he won a bronze medal in the Mixed team sprint C1–5 event.
• At the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris, he had an amazing performance. He won a bronze medal in the Men's Pursuit C1 on August 29, 2024. Then, on September 1, he earned a silver medal in the Mixed team sprint C1–5. Finally, on September 4, he won a gold medal in the Men's time trial C1.

Cycling World Championships

Ricardo has also achieved great success at the World Championships for para-cycling.

• In 2023, he won the World Championship in the C1 category for cycling. As part of his prize, he received a wristwatch.
• He has won multiple gold medals at the UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships, including in the Scratch race C1 and Individual pursuit C1 events.
• He has also won gold medals at the UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships, for example, in the Time trial C1 and Road race C1 events.
