Making History with Horror Films
One of Freda's most important movies was I Vampiri, which he started directing in 1956. This film holds a special place in movie history because it was the first Italian horror movie made with sound. Before this, there was only one silent Italian horror film called Il mostro di Frankenstein from 1920.
Even though I Vampiri was the first sound horror film, a lot of other Italian horror movies didn't start being made right away. It wasn't until Mario Bava's film Black Sunday came out around the world that Italian horror films became really popular.
