Musical Career
Early Success
Ricco Barrino's music journey began in 2006. After hearing a song by Eminem, he felt inspired to write his own music. He wrote a song called "Bubble Gum," which became a popular hit in his local area. This song was his first single and helped him get noticed by record labels like Grand Hustle and Atlantic Records.
That same year, he worked with his sister Fantasia on her album Fantasia. He sang on the track "Bore Me (Yawn)". He also tried out for the seventh season of American Idol but did not make it to the final rounds in Hollywood.
Working with Grand Hustle
In 2008, Barrino was featured on a song from T.I.'s hit album Paper Trail. This gave him a chance to show his talent to a much larger audience. The next year, he was featured on the single "Futuristic Love (Elroy)" with another Grand Hustle artist, Yung L.A.. The song was a success, reaching number 55 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
In 2010, fans got to see more of him on his sister's reality TV show, Fantasia for Real.
Releasing His Own Music
Barrino continued to release his own projects. In 2012, he released a mixtape called Twenty 12 Play. A mixtape is a collection of songs, similar to an album, that artists often release for free. He followed this with another mixtape, Musical Evolution, in 2013.
In 2014, he released his first extended play (EP), called From the Club to the Crib. An EP is like a short album with just a few songs. One of the popular songs from this EP was "Drift".
A year later, in 2015, Barrino gained even more fame when he was featured on the song "California" by rapper Colonel Loud. The song was a big radio hit and was praised by many music websites.
