Richard Warren Hacker (born October 6, 1947 – died April 22, 2020) was a person who loved baseball. He was a player, a coach, and a scout in Major League Baseball. He played a short time as a shortstop for the Montreal Expos in 1971. He played 16 games and had four hits. Rich Hacker went to Southern Illinois University. After playing, he became a successful coach.
Rich Hacker's Coaching Career
Rich Hacker was a baseball coach in the Major Leagues for many years. He coached from 1986 to 1993. He worked for the St. Louis Cardinals from 1986 to 1990. Then he coached for the Toronto Blue Jays from 1991 to 1993.
He started as the first base coach for the Cardinals. Later, he became the third base coach. For the Blue Jays, he was also the third base coach. He helped his teams reach the World Series two times. He was part of the Blue Jays when they won the World Series in 1992 and 1993. He also coached in the 1988 Major League Baseball All-Star Game.
In 1993, Rich Hacker was in a car accident. This accident happened in St. Louis. It meant he could no longer coach on the field. He stayed with the Blue Jays team. He helped them by doing other important work. For example, he created charts about how opposing teams hit.

Rich Hacker lived in Belleville, Illinois, with his wife, Kathryn. They had three grown children. He enjoyed hunting and looking for new baseball talent as a scout. He was also a member of the New Athens High School Hall of Fame. His uncle, Warren Hacker, was also a Major League Baseball player. Rich Hacker passed away on April 22, 2020, in Fairview Heights, Illinois. He died because of leukemia.
